Ed Trefzger

Ed is editor and co-founder of JazzWeek, a weekly jazz radio and music industry trade publication which publishes the national radio airplay charts for jazz and smooth jazz radio. JazzWeek also holds an annual conference for jazz radio programmers, musicians, journalists and promoters each June. Ed is a member of the Jazz Journalists’ Association and the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE). He has moderated and participated in radio panel sessions each year since 2002 at IAJE’s national conferences and during that time has helped IAJE plan the topics for its track of industry sessions.

As a recording studio engineer and producer, Ed has produced four albums and several singles and has recorded and mixed many others, as well as performing on vocals and clarinet on three projects. He has nearly 20 years experience as a live sound engineer, including for nationally-known performers such as Karrin Allyson, David “Fathead” Newman, Tony Monaco, Joey DeFrancesco, Chuck Loeb, Cyrus Chestnut, Jane Monheit, Joe Locke, Matt Wilson, Mark Elf, Mark Turner, Matthias Lupri, Joe Romano, Joel Frahm, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Cuong Vu, the Rippingtons, Wycliffe Gordon, Marcus Printup, Leni Stern, Maria Muldaur, the Frank and Joe Show, Katie Bull, Francesca Tanksley, Jon Weber, Joe Bonamassa and many others, as well as Jazz90.1 Meet the Artist Concerts and live broadcasts.

In addition to jazz, Ed’s radio experience includes 25 years as a producer and broadcaster of RIT hockey, including play-by-play and color commentary, and more than ten years as host and engineer of Rochester Sessions, a weekly live music program on WITR. Ed also had a stint as an afternoon traffic reporter on WHAM during the 1980’s and has done freelance radio production.
